New Year

Check out my last post of 2007 below!

PVC and Arty Prints

Chloé and Marni's FW07 collections were similiar in many ways and big trendsetters for fall. Firstly, the shiny fabric PVC was all over the runway. At Chloé, the fabric was a bit more formfitting than at Marni and mostly in dark orange. At Marni it was shaped in a loose way, so it had a sporty feeling. They kind of looked like garbage bags, but layered and paired with another trend - statement chunky necklaces - it looked great. The necklaces have been a big hit, they brought a technical, eclectic vibe to the collection.

The collections also contained beautiful dresses in arty prints. The prints will continue to be a trend next summer as seen on both Chloé and Marni's SS08 runways. These monochrome prints are the perfect entrée to spring.

Shiny Satin

There's something about satin heels that can change a whole outfit. Colourful satin pumps can instantly pop up a simple LBD. Satin's shiny texture is attention grabbing and glamourus. It's sexy but still has sophistication.
The fabric is not flattering for everyone when worn in dresses, since it accentuates every lump and bump. A pair of satin shoes are just the right amount of shine.

Black Satin

Choose black satin pumps if you're wearing a glitzy, embellished dress to keep the attention on the dress but still keep it glam and shiny.

From left: Satin Knot Front Peep Toe Shoe $79.84 from ASOS; Satin Peep Toe Mary Jane Pump $29.90 from FlyJane; Marc by Marc Jacobs Satin Open Toe Platform Pump $242.50 from ShopBop.

Colourful Satin

Go for coloured satin if you're wearing a black dress or an outfit that needs colour. Choose the shoes carefully, since all eyes are gonna be on them.

Clockwise from top left: Satin Elastic Panel Shoe £50 from TopShop; Marni Crisscross Platform Slingbacks $576 from Net-a-porter; Pedro Garcia Elora Satin Platform Strappy Sandal $375 from ShopBop; Tribeca 'Social Event' Pump $54.95 from Nordstrom; Steve Madden Platform Peep Toe Shoe $159.67 from Asos; Claire Satin Heel $19.99 from Urban Outfitters.

Satin Flats

Flats in satin are a more classier alternative to the simple black day flats.

From top: Fairytales are True Satin Doll Skimmer $28 from Urban Outfitters; Loeffler Randall Calliope Satin Colorblock Flat $172.50 from ShopBop; Pedro Garcia Satin Ballerina Flat $325 from Neiman Marcus.

My Favourites of 2007

Designers

That’s a tough one. I could name so many, but I’ve narrowed it down to only four designers. Phillip Lim, for his effortless style and wearable pieces. Luella for her energetic and fun styles. Christopher Bailey at Burberry Prorsum for his luxurious designs. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez at Proenza Schouler for great collections in general.

Magazines

Elle UK, love their trend section, French Vogue for editorials and Harper’s Bazaar for everything in between.

Celebs

Olsen twins for their fashionable grunge boho style, Sienna Miller for always looking stylish but in an achievable way and Chloe Sevigny for her individual style.

Celeb Clothing Lines

Twenty 8 Twelve by S.Miller, loved the romantic designs but the collection also included some edgy pieces. Kate Moss for Topshop was great too, I wasn't really impressed with the whole collection, but in general it was good. It reflected Kate's style really much, so her biggest fans haven't been disappointed.

Online Stores

Urban Outfitters US for great knits, dresses and accessories; Asos for copies of celeb dresses and trendy shoes, ShopBop for designer brands and American Apparel for basics.

High Street Stores

H&M for affordable stylish designs, british All Saints for their unususal shapes and cut and great colour scheme, also love their artwork on tees. Urban Outfitters Europe and Topshop for everything.

Snow Whites

Even now, two years later, I still remember the D&G fall/winter 2006 show. The models, dressed head-to-toe in white knits, walked down a snowy runway. They were the ski bunnies in winter wonderland.
When it started snowing this winter, I immediately thought about the snowy fantasy of the show. I just love when it snows on Christmas Day and it makes all the trees white.
Although the D&G show was in early 2006 the shops are filled with wintery white goodies. Some people found the show a bit dramatic, which it is, but since I’m the biggest knit fan, I loved it.
The colour white (or should I say ivory) can be a bit too much when done head-to-toe, but I find it elegant when dressed in beautiful cable-knit sweaters, cowl-neck dresses and all the pom-pom accessories. Layering is an absolute must in this occasion, it makes it less awkward and more chic.
When wearing this white trend, start with white tights or leggings and a light tank or a camisole. Think of that as a base and then build the look on that. The next thing could be a knit sweater and a belted ski-inspired jacket, or a sweater dress and a chunky cable-knit sweater. Then accessorize with a nice cosy scarf, a slightly oversized beret, and of course gloves to keep your fingers warm. If you want to opt for the ultimate ski bunny look, finish off with snow boots.

Sexy Tux

With fashion's more powerful look this fall, think androgyny and the tux, I've put together the look for less. We've got this crisp white man shirt and then pair it with sexy satin pants, wide leather belt, patent leather sky-high pumps and a structured bag. A red nail polish and a daimond bangle warm the look up a bit.

Clockwise from top left: Stretch Fitted Shirt $39.50 from Gap; Stitched Obi Wrap Belt $26.90 from Asos; Kenneth Jay Lane Thin Hinged Bangle $165 from ShopBop; NARS Nail Polish $15 from Nordstrom; Croco Framed Lady Bag $58 from Urban Outfitters; Lux Stirup Pant $48 from Urban Outfitters; Patent Mary Jane Platform Shoe $67.24 from Asos.

Finish the look with a velvet blazer, as seen at D&G F/W 07, or Topshop's Tuxedo Jacket with Satin Trim.

Christmas Dresses

One of the best things about christmas is buying the dress. The perfect christmas dress in my opinion is glam, dressy and full of attitude.
I also love to buy a New Year’s dress. Then it’s more glam, metallics and emballishments.
There are a lot of colours going on this year. It’s the classics: black, grey, metallics, navy and ivory. And the strong colours like purple, red, orange and blue.
I’ve surfed the net to find the most perfect (and affordable) christmas and new years dresses and divided them into colours.
Tell me what’s your favourite in the comments!

I love these ¾ sleeves. They’re great for more formal occasions.
From left: Square Neck Sequin Chiffon Dress $85.17 from ASOS, Peoples Market Satin Frill Collar Dress $145.68 from ASOS, INC International Concepts Bead-Trim Dress $129 from Macy*s.

Black and gold is a gorgeous combination. I am in love with the dress in center.
From left: Lux House of Yes Dress $88 from Urban Outfitters, ASOS Premium Silk Deco Embroidered Dress $112.07 from ASOS, Spring & Clifton Drawstring Waist Dress $227 from ShopBop.

The ones on left and center are more structured and elegant. The one to the right is perfect for fuller bottoms since it’s flowy from waist down.
From left: Belted Dress $78.45 from ASOS, Fitted Bow Front Dress $78.45 from ASOS, Lux Divinity Dress $98 from Urban Outfitters.

The leather mini dress (right) is a bit unusual. So is the dress in center.
From left: Grey Ant Ruffle Mini Dress $198 from ShopBop, Lipsy Cut Out Silk Chiffon Dress $98.62 from ASOS, Lipsy Leather Look Shift Dress $89.65 from ASOS.

Grey can be a bit dull colour, unless it’s glamed up with some sparkle.
From left: Beaded Cut-Out Neck Dress $85.17 from ASOS, LUXE Sequin Scoop Back Dress $145.68 from ASOS, Hot Kiss Rhinestone-Accent Strapless Dress $59 from Dillard's, Lux Wool Tube Dress $78 from Urban Outfitters.

I love all of these dresses.
From left: ABS by Allen Schwartz Geometric-Print Dress $168 from Dillard's, Brigitte Dress $44.50 from dELiAs, Metallic Color Block Dress $45 from fredflare.

These are lighter and more romantic. They're a perfect substitute from all the LBD’s.

Here the attention is on the chest area with embellishment.
From left: Embellished Bust Halter Dress $85.17 from ASOS, LUXE Embellished Silk Halter Dress $145.68 from ASOS, Taylor Halter Dress $44.50 from dELiAs.

Navy is one of my favourite colours. It’s quite save like black, but at the same time interesting.
From left: Torrance Tunic $27.80 from Forever 21, Mina Button Up Frill Belted Tea Dress $168.10 from ASOS, Cap Sleeve Pleat Frill Dress $67.24 from ASOS, French Connection Strapless Fitted Mini-Dress $168.10 from ASOS.

Purple is such a glam colour.
From left: French Connection "Mystify Me Satin" Dress $158 from Dillard's, Gabbi Satin Top $24.80 from Forever 21, Elizabeth and James Chiffon Petal Dress $395 from INTERMIX.

Strong colours, like blue, look great on shiny fabrics, they get a more jewel tone.
From left: Embellished Knit Dress $62.76 from ASOS, BCBGMAXAZRIA Dress $240 from Dillard's, Zinc Crisscross-Back Satin Dress $69 from Dillard's.

I love wearing red for christmas, the ultimate christmas colour.
