Hairtrends for Summer

Since summer has officially started, I'm posting a few hairtrends that were seen on the spring and summer runways. From relaxed to sleek to wild cloud hair.

First are wavy locks. They aren't new or anything but they seem to be even more casual than before. The look's relaxed and effortless.

Partings were often to the side and the hair was shiny and healthy. It was both taken back to a loose ponytail or in a neat bun.

This was a popular trend, hair looked like clouds; frothy, oversized and over backcombed.

Costume Institute Gala

Greecian Dresses

Well, I'm back and I want to start by apologizing for the lack of posting. And thank everyone for the lovely comments, it's amazing to know that people are looking forward to new posts!

But on with the fashion. I loved all the Greecian inspired dresses on the spring/summer runways. The draping and light fabrics make me think of ancient Greecian goddesses. The beautiful dresses came in all versions for spring; maxi length, knee-length, short, one-shoulder. The thing that I love about them is the femininity - the way they hug the curves. And if the shape is too wide, a waist belt can be a great way to make more drapes and chinch the waist. They were both in earthy tones and pastels, with bright colors in between. There's a lot of variety and the look is easy to copy. Though the dresses can be a little fancy they should also been worn on a sunny summerday with flats and a smile!

A Break

I'm just too busy at the moment and will probably be for a month or so.

Light Washed Denim

Designers showed a lot of light washed denim for spring. I think it's more suitable for summer paired with the sheer fabrics, florals and all the romance.

Alexander Wang showed denim with denim, which I would not like unless it's done in a light color. It somehow looked right. Christopher Kane kept things raw with a cropped denim jacket and some see through. Karen Walker's denim dress is a bit darker than the other two and a safer choice.

I don't think this trend will get overly popular, but with these young and talented designers, which collections have been praised, it's certainly going to be tried. We've already seen a few celebs wear it, like Sophia Bush, who stepped out in light wide leg jeans. It is a hard look since it's not as slimming as darker shades, but definitely more interesting for those sunny days.

Stars

In the Chanel show for spring and summer, Karl Lagerfeld showed a lot of star prints mixed with red and white stripes. It all had this american dream vibe. Stars are now a big trend - designers like Karen Walker included a dress with mini star print in her summer collection. When they are done in print, stars have a playfull - almost childish attitude.

At Yves Saint Laurent stars played a huge part, mostly in detailing and embellishment. They were on belts, in necklaces, as buttons, on shoes and so on. Matthew Williamson also included a necklace with stars in the Pucci line.

Now the fall/winter shows are over and though stars weren't as popular as in the spring shows, Giles included a navy dress with cut out stars. Definitely a new take on the star trend, and maybe a bit more raw and less youthful.

Crocodile Clutches

I've been obsessed with clutches lately, it is a huge trend afterall. The textures that I like the most are snakeskin and crocodile. It was seen on the spring/summer runways in a few different versions and celebrities have also been wearing this trend. I've seen them in a few high street stores but they often look pretty fake, especially when they're not in leather. I personally like the ones in vintage stores better. I'm loving colours like black, winered, navy and beige. For daytime I prefer them oversized and then a bit smaller for the evening.

Model Style

I love checking out the backstage photos of models on style.com when the fashion weeks are over. I think models often have an amazing style, they mix perfectly together basic (cheaper) pieces with designer ones. They're outfits are casual with jeans and tights / oversized t-shirts and knit sweaters / biker jackets and blazer jackets / boots and scarves. The color pallette isn't that exciting with black, grey, white and other earthy, basic tones. I hope you'll get some inspiration from these photos from New York, Milan and Paris!

Sorry about the icelandic on the photos. I guess everybody understood, though.

Spring/Summer Trends

I know you've already seen all the 'Top trends for spring' in the magazines, but I've looked through countless amount of shows and choosen the best photos in my opinion on what are the best trends for spring/summer.

First is romance, whith feathers, frills and ruffles.

You probably know that florals will be big for spring, everything from Balenciaga's oversized florals to the small floral prints at Luella. Thakoon had an irregular print that's a bit different.

Sheer fabrics are a bit hard to copy in real life, but they were all over the runways. I really like when a strong colour is worn underneath a see through fabric, as seen at Jil Sander.

Flared skirts that embrace the waist are going to be the skirt trend for summer. They can be short or hit above the knee, and they have a lot of volume.

The fifth trend is the African inspiration (which I've posted about before), with the safari and tribal trends.

Belts were skinny on the runways, cinching the waist of wide shapes. They were often in brown shades and either knotted or folded.

I'm loving this trend, the cropped pants. They hit the ankle and were folded in most cases. They have a casual vibe to them.

Lastly it's the arty prints. Dresses almost looked like paintings.

Milan Fashion Week

I love all the luxurious effects on Milan Fashion Week. This time was no exception, we’re talking fur, glamour and amazing fabrics. Instead of reviewing each collection, I’m just gonna divide it into trends.

At Gucci (above) there was a Russian inspiration with a mix of rock and bohemian feeling. Other collections with this look were Moschino and Roberto Cavalli.

Coloured tights were at designers like Bottega Veneta (above), Emilio Pucci, Iceberg and Moschino. The colours were pretty mild at some shows and the shoes and even the whole look were often in the same colour.

I personally love the typical Italian prints by designers like Maurizio Pecoraro (above), Missoni and Matthew Williamson at Pucci.

Furs were popular with the big fashion houses. They were a big part of the shows at Marni (above), Fendi and Gucci.

The snow look with fur collars and puffy parkas were seen at both Emilio Pucci (above) and Iceberg.

Iceberg (above), Roberto Cavalli and MaxMara all included chunky knitwear with interesting details like braids.

It looks like the skating boot is going to keep on into next winter. At least they were seen at Missoni (above), Prada, Iceberg and Emilio Pucci. They were in most cases ankle boots, but in some shows they were at the knees.

The Prada show (above) was all lace. Other shows that included lace were La Perla, Roberto Cavalli and Versace.

It was quite a bit of glamour on the runways. MaxMara (above), were minimalism is the standard look, showed embellished sweaters and they popped up the collection. Other shows that had glamour were 6267, Alberta Ferretti and Derercuny.

Street Style from New York

I loved going through all the street style pics that Scott from The Sartorialist posted on Style.com from New York Fashion Week. Because I get so much inspiration from other people and street style blogs. I piled together a few trends the amazing fashion people was working at the shows, so here you go...

At first, I loved all the pants. The girl on left is wearing amazing mustard cropped pants (and cropped pants are going to be a hit for summer). Mustard goes really well with navy and the light brown shoes. I thought the beige pants are the perfect style, not too baggy and not that tight. Love the pants on right worn with sky high heels.

Bright, eye-catching shoes make a big statement, especially if the outfit is simple or all black. The girl to left is wearing open sandals with kind of casual pants, and I think each balances the other out.

I love chunky scarves. It's especially necessary if you're wearing a mini skirt and thin tights.

The strong blue colours are instant outfit fixers. Coloured scarves are such an easy way of letting colours into the outfit without overdoing it.

Biker jackets. They can be worn casual or with a dress to toughen up a feminine outfit.

At last is fur, which I personally love the most on the girl to left. I think that if the fur is bit chunky, a vest is more suitable than a full coat.

New York Fashion Week Fall 08

Well, now that New York Fashion Week is finished and London's already started, I'm gonna post a few of my favourites collections from NY. But since there has been so many reviews on other blogs, I'm just gonna make it a quick read with a few favourite looks from each collection.

Alexander Wang was dark and mysterious and I loved the kind of raw tomboy look. It was maybe a bit too slouchy for my taste as I liked the spring collection better, but it was still really good. Loved the leather vest and all the body-con skirts which gave a bit of femininity.

From the darkness to the light and lovely collection of BCBG Max Azria. I loved all the mild colours, and the leather belts really gave the final touch to the outfits. Lubov Azria (BCBG's creative director) said backstage that the collection was wearable and clean, which is a good description, I think.

I didn't think that the whole collection itself was amazing at Behnaz Sarafpour, but there were many great outfits. The main thing I liked were all the colours and prints. Some pieces had an added glam to them, like the dress far right.

Jeremy Laing had basic shapes and cuts. The collection included both loose, almost oversized dresses and trousers and then also tight, body-con dresses. I loved the front zip on the dresses to right. It was a pretty simple collection, nothing too showy, but it also had really interesting pieces in between.

Oh my, how I loved Karen Walker. It was a bit 'messy', as the inspiration was children clothes from the Victorian and Edwardian eras mixed with street culture. The colours were bright with beautiful old floral prints. Walker is a master in mixing different looks and making it work and this show was no exception.

Y & Kei's collection was romantic but nothing too frilly as the shapes were pretty classic. The florals had a modern twist and were a bit arty, like a beautiful painting. I loved the styling, the prints made a big statement when paired with all black.

Style Icon: Chloë Sevigny

Like you probably know by now, Chloë Sevigny, is a fashion icon. Her unique ways of mixing vintage and high fashion is what makes her outfits interesting.

British Elle Magazine has hired Chloë as their style advisor, and for the next six months she will be answering letters about style for the magazine. She’s on the March cover with a interview and an awesome photoshoot inside.

In the interview she says she studies all the fashion shows each season and then makes a list of all the things she likes. She also reads all the fashion mags and gets inspiration from books. She likes vintage shopping and visits many New York thrift stores to check out new stuff. She admits that sometimes it’d be easier to have a stylist. But she thinks it’s unfair that all the Hollywood stars get all the fashion credits ‘These people are celebrated for their style and they don’t even dress themselves.’

Chloë has lots of fashion friends. She’s known Marc Jacobs since she was 17. They met 1992 when Marc worked at Perry Ellis and had just unveiled the remorable grunge collection. ‘He could easily do things that are just cute and wearable, but he’s always pushing the envelope.’ Among other friends in the fashion industry are the designers Nicolas Ghesquiere at Balenciaga, Stefano Pilati at YSL and Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez at Proenza Schouler.

What could be her best fashion advice? ‘Knowing what’s good on you, wearing it with pride and having a certain confidence and swagger.’

Chloë has now launched a collection of clothing, shoes and sunglasses for New York based brand Opening Ceremony. The collection is vintage inspired and influenced in large part by the styles she enjoyed in high school. It could be described as grungy yet feminine with clashing prints, rock'n roll, and 80s high school. It includes floral grunge frocks, micro minis, black mesh tees, zip-up ankle booties and cat-eye sunglasses. She claims the clothes are mix and match and can work from day to night. ‘They’re quirky, something different’.

Chloë had two things in mind while designing. Every piece should be something she'd personally want to own as well as something she'd always wanted people to design but never had.

The collection is available in Opening Ceremony boutique in New York and LA. In Europe it’s Colette in Paris and Selfridges in London.

I don't know if the blogs that I'm gonna tag have already gotten tagged for this award, but I tried to pick the ones that haven't. Anyway, the blogs that I tag are: Allure Fashion, Fashion You, Inspiration in Heels, Jottings of a Fashionista, Power Rangers Go.

And I also have to answer these questions:

What’s the story behind the name of your blog and your nickname?
Well, I actually had a few names in mind when I got the idea to do a blog. Then I signed up at Blogger, but the names were all taken. So I tried some other names and they were all taken. Finally, when I was becoming seriously desperite, I tried J'adore Vogue and it wasn't taken. I liked it alot, so it became the name. As for the nickname, I couldn't find any non-cheesy nickname so I just had it the blog's name.

Why did you started blogging in the first place?
Firstly, fashion is the thing that lights my day up. I get a chill when I buy new fashion magazines and when fashion week season is coming around. So I just thought, why not make a blog! It wasn't like a sudden decision, I had been thinking about for a while before I actually did it. Secondly, as english is not my first language and my dream is to go to fashion school abroad, I wanted to practice my english writing. And of course it's just a way of showing my opinions and giving my thoughts into the fashion world!

What has been your best blogging experience? What about the worst?
The best experience has been all the wonderful comments. It's really heartwarming how people can be nice and uplifting, especially at first. I haven't had a bad blogging experience yet, and I hope it'll stay that way :)

What do you think will happen to your blog in 2008?
I'm just going to try to blog as often as I can and make them interesting and fun as well. I just hope that I get more readers and that people are going to like my work.

Inspiration from Africa

One of my favourite trends for summer are the African inspired safari and tribal trends.
Designers featured modern tribal influences on their spring runways with wild prints, such as ikat, monochrome and batik, and chunky jewelry.
The safari trend has been evolving over the years. I honestly thought it wouldn’t be as big of a trend that it was on the runways. It has kind of started to become a classic, but it doesn't always remain the same. I really like the new versions for spring.
It’s not a coincidence that these two trends are linked together. They’re inspired from the same culture and they also look great paired together for a real global-tribal-safari-chic look!

Etro had a colourful collection and showed a lot of dark moss green. I loved how the green was paired with all kinds of prints and bright colours.

These are more sophisticated looks, but still casual. The colour is neutral in light beige. Bottega Veneta had a suit; cropped pants and a slightly oversized jacket/shirt, the perfect safari outfit. J.Mendel showed the ultimate safari dress dress with big pockets, which is a classic look for this trend. Proenza Schouler had a bit different outfit from the other two, as the buttons gave it a bit of a military vibe.

The tribal trend was a big hit on Diane von Furstenberg’s runway. I’m not a big fan of the headscarves, though. DKNY’s monochrome shirt dress is youtful and fresh.

Oscar de la Renta showed a big interest in Africa in his spring collection. He clashed prints together and the result was dramatic dresses and accessories.

Get the Look

H&M’s spring collection has a lot of african prints, but you'll have to wait until you get your hands on all those affordable, trendy pieces. To keep on within the cheaper price range, Topshop has a few tops and dresses in ikat prints. I love their Animal Ikat Print Dress. Urban Outfitters have this great Ikat Printed Scarf, which is a great way to get this look and not overdo it.
To switch completely in gear as the prices go, 3.1 Phillip Lim has a great oversized safari cardigan, available at Net-a-porter. The Mulberry cotton safari dress, also from Net-a-porter is fab. And the perfect safari cargo pants come from Michael Kors. For the tribal look, Pringle of Scotland have an amazing monochrome print dress.

Walk Tall Into the Summer

I love shoes, and I'm pretty sure that many women do. I've been looking out for shoe trends on the runways for next summer, and think I have a bright idea what's coming in shoes. First, I saw some trends that have been loitering for a few seasons, or even the past years. Then I noticed some new trends.

Of course, for summer, we wear sandals, flats and the typical summer shoes alot (at least those of us that don't have the sun all-year round). So the first trend I'm going to review are the gladiator sandals. They seem to have a long lifetime, as they've been a trend for the past spring/summer seasons. But there's an exception this time. Chanel broke the barrier in their resort 07 collection (seen on MK above). Now they're edgier than ever, and have been called 'super gladiators'. We're talking knee-high, heeled, strappy, patent and two-toned. D&G showed sandals in the same style that has been last summers, but maybe a bit higher. Dries Van Noten had strappy ankle gladiator heels. Givenchy's knee-high gladiator heels are my favourite. I love the uneven straps and their edgy touch. The most extravagant version are the Balenciaga black and white knee-high heels. Net-A-Porter have sandals from Oscar de la Renta, that cut just above the ankle, and are more plain than the pairs below.

Next trend has also been seen before, and is something I personally love. The crisscross heels. They're often in platform style and have a peeptoe. The crisscross can be everything from thin to chunky, and it can be one cross or more. Dsquared2 had a thin crisscross strap and is a rather elegant choice. Burberry showed them with socks, which is a nice alternative to this trend. Anna Sui's version is colourful and Thakoon had a nice pair that's a bit different from the other three. Also, check out Marni's Crisscross Platform Slingbacks from Net-A-Porter.

Then we have the classic mary janes which probably everyone has in some edition. I loooved Giambattista Valli's pink sky-high platforms, which Mary Kate Olsen has been seen wearing. Alexander McQueen also showed pink mary janes, but in a snake skin for a bit more raw texture. Missoni's girly, grey mary janes were more down to earth than the previous mentioned. Yves Saint Laurent then had the simpliest version of all.

The T-bar is a trend similiar to the mary janes. Burberry showed a luxurios piece, Lanvin's chunky T-bar was my personal favourite, and Zac Posen showed a glamorous sparkly version.

The first of the new trends is the buckle. I'm not saying it's a big trend spotting, but it hasn't been seen like this before. Jean Paul Gaultier had a dramatic pair of grey heels with big buckles. Marni's two-tone colour heels are chic and stylish. Lanvin showed a brown pair that have a bit of a safari feeling. Last but not least, Gucci had a gorgeous pair in strong green with buckles on the side.

The second trend I spotted were thin laces. At Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga and Peter Som the laces had fine bows. But Givenchy's laces were more of a leather straps. The Balenciaga pair is a new take on the oxfords, and Peter Som's also. Alexander McQueen had the laces at, and above the ankle, which I love.

Notice that these are only runway trends. Of course we have great shoe designers (if not the best), like Christian Louboutin, Azzedine Alaia, Pierre Hardy and many more, that I've not included in to post, but all make great shoes. I decided to check out the sale at Net-A-Porter.com and see if there were some affordable things. It was a bit harder than I thought, since I was looking for pieces under $400. But I spent hours browsing through the sale and found a few things that I liked.

Cuffs

I just wanted to post a small post today, nothing great, but better than nothing.

Cuffs have been a big hit lately and replaced the bangles. The thing I love about cuffs is that they're more sophisticated than a wrist full of bangles. Of course a one cuff is enough, and only on one wrist. Here are a few of my favourite picks, in a few price categories.

Embellished

Add more sparkle to your outfit by wearing an embellished cuff.

Colourful

If you're wearing a simple dress or neutral colours, a more colourful cuff is great to pop up the outfit.

Logos

Embrace Your Curves

As much as I've loved the smock dresses the latest seasons, the body-con trend is something so glamorous. The 80's style trend was back in 2007, with designers like Christopher Kane and Proenza Schouler showing it on their spring/summer runways. It was also seen for fall/winter 07 and though it wasn't all over the runways for next summer, there are still some designers that have their body-con dresses as a trademark.

Body-con is all about clothes that enhance the lines of a woman's body and leaving very little to the imagination. The trend was defined in the 80s, when designers like Hervé Léger and Azzedine Alaia created the bandage dress. The dress has been popular with the celebrities on the red carpet over the years, especially from Hervé Léger. Lindsay Lohan has worn a few, Victoria Beckham also and Kim Kardashian is a big fan.

Body-con is a style best suited to curvy, slim and athletic figures. It doesn't suit a large frame. Figure-hugging dresses sit best on strong-looking womanly bodies, with good legs. It's a power look and needs confident.
You can work this trend in a few different ways. If you've got some lovely curves and you feel good about your body, you should definitely try a tight version. If your more self concious, you should try a version that's got some details and not made of a stretchy fabric. And as you know, black is a slimming colour, so try a dark colour to hide any imperfections.

Then there's the body-con bandage skirt. It's great if you want to show your legs but keep the upper body more hidden. A loose blouse, for example, is great. Nicole Richie wore it a lot last summer and Ashley Olsen has also been seen wearing it. The body-con skirt is so much more relaxed than the dress and more suitable for daytime.

The main thing doing this trend is not to go overboard. You shouldn't show too much, even if you have the perfect body. A cropped jacket or a slightly oversized cardigan with a skinny belt is a great way to keep it classy.

Style and Wardrobe Inspiration

With all the sales, both in store and on the net, we can sometimes buy a little too much ‘just because it’s on sale’. I personally always try to buy classic, basic pieces that I know I can use for at least a few seasons. When I’m looking for something more trendy I first try to see if I find it at a more affordable price. If it’s something that is really this-season but still could work into the next season I’m more willing to splurge.
My style is a bit casual and can sometimes be a bit simple. But I do like statement pieces, colour and chunky jewellry to give life to my outfits, especially for the night.

A few of my favourites basic safe choices I always have:
- A V-neck t-shirt in white – slightly oversized. Preferably in grey too.
- Basic knits; a V-neck, cowl neck and an oversized cardigan.
- Black tights. Although leggings were a big trend for a few seasons I still kept my loyalty to the tights. I just think they’re more classy. And now that leggings are out and tights are in I’m getting different versins. They’ve come more of a statement, like grey rib tights or black with a bit of a metallic flair.
- The perfect pair of jeans that suit my body. Your basic, perfect pair of jeans should work with everything. You should not let the latest trends rule your decision, only use them as inspiration. When buying a classic pair of jeans, be ready to spend some money, as some of the cheaper jeans aren’t made of quality denim. Dark, unwashed denim is best for a classic pair.
- Casual day dresses in neutral colours (black, brown, grey...). They’re in soft and flowy fabrics and are great for change of seasons, since you can always wear long sleeve tees underneath and thick tights to make them warmer.
- The LBD. Everyone knows this, the little black dress is a must in every woman’s closet. It is perfect when you’re in an outfit crisis, and is always a safe choice.

These choices are something that I start with as my base and then I just build on that to make it more interesting. I’m not a big fan of colour, but I always try to wear some colour or if I’m wearing head-to-toe black I play with texture.

Shoes

Ballet flats are adorable, chic and comfy for daytime. Although some strict fashionistas avoid being seen public in flats (ehm, Victoria Beckham) I really like them. They’re perfect with jeans and casual sun dresses, but you should not wear them with cocktail dresses. They’re not really dressy, so in most cases their not suitable for any fancy outfit. When it comes to heels I don’t like plain black stilettos. Don’t get me wrong, they’re okay, but I believe that shoes should be exciting. Of course thay can be black, but at least they should have some texture, something to make them interesting. When you’re wearing a classic LBD, you must wear attention grabbing shoes. The dress is not the main thing, so make the most out of it and wear a pair of stylish pumps.

Accessories

For a normal day I often wear a printed scarf. I like the way it can spice up my outfit. I can be wearing only basics, and the outfits looks really boring, but the scarf brings the life too it.
As for jewellry, I don’t wear a lot of it during the day. Just some diamond stone earrings and maybe a thin gold chain necklace. For the night I’ll add a cuff or bangles and skip either the necklace or earrings. I don’t like wearing jewellry on wrist, fingers, neck and ears all at the same time.
In the handbag department, as I’m a student I can’t wear a structured handbag, so I choose a tote for the day. For the night I like clutches in all sizes, colours and shapes.

It depends on your style and what you like when it comes to jewellry and accessories. Some people don’t like wearing them and just want to keep things simple, while others pile on the jewellry.
If you are more fond of vintage and glamour, and like the styles of Mary-Kate Olsen and the stylist Rachel Zoe; vintage cuffs, gold chain necklaces, cocktail rings and diamond earrings are your kind of jewellry.
If you are more of a street chic and are more into less-is-more and casual style (think Lauren Conrad and Kate Bosworth); a scarf, jewelled stone earrings and a few bangles are probably your choices.

Inspiration

The tips I’ve been giving are something that many of you know already, but I really wanted to describe my style and show you what I like so you can get inspiration. Sometimes we’re stuck in the same trends, in the same routine of dressing. Trust me, I’m not perfect when it comes to my own style, but I'm always looking around me and seeking inspiration.
Inspiration is all around us. You can get it by following fashion shows and designers, reading magazines, check out what celebrites are wearing, watch other people’s style on the streets, go to vintage stores and flea markets, see what the high streets stores have to offer and so on. You don’t have to be a fashion victim or a fashion know-it-all to be stylish. You just have to look around you, because you can find inspiration in everyting!

PVC and Arty Prints

Chloé and Marni's FW07 collections were similiar in many ways and big trendsetters for fall. Firstly, the shiny fabric PVC was all over the runway. At Chloé, the fabric was a bit more formfitting than at Marni and mostly in dark orange. At Marni it was shaped in a loose way, so it had a sporty feeling. They kind of looked like garbage bags, but layered and paired with another trend - statement chunky necklaces - it looked great. The necklaces have been a big hit, they brought a technical, eclectic vibe to the collection.

The collections also contained beautiful dresses in arty prints. The prints will continue to be a trend next summer as seen on both Chloé and Marni's SS08 runways. These monochrome prints are the perfect entrée to spring.

Shiny Satin

There's something about satin heels that can change a whole outfit. Colourful satin pumps can instantly pop up a simple LBD. Satin's shiny texture is attention grabbing and glamourus. It's sexy but still has sophistication.
The fabric is not flattering for everyone when worn in dresses, since it accentuates every lump and bump. A pair of satin shoes are just the right amount of shine.

Black Satin

Choose black satin pumps if you're wearing a glitzy, embellished dress to keep the attention on the dress but still keep it glam and shiny.

Colourful Satin

Designers

That’s a tough one. I could name so many, but I’ve narrowed it down to only four designers. Phillip Lim, for his effortless style and wearable pieces. Luella for her energetic and fun styles. Christopher Bailey at Burberry Prorsum for his luxurious designs. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez at Proenza Schouler for great collections in general.

Magazines

Elle UK, love their trend section, French Vogue for editorials and Harper’s Bazaar for everything in between.

Celebs

Olsen twins for their fashionable grunge boho style, Sienna Miller for always looking stylish but in an achievable way and Chloe Sevigny for her individual style.

Celeb Clothing Lines

Twenty 8 Twelve by S.Miller, loved the romantic designs but the collection also included some edgy pieces. Kate Moss for Topshop was great too, I wasn't really impressed with the whole collection, but in general it was good. It reflected Kate's style really much, so her biggest fans haven't been disappointed.

Online Stores

Urban Outfitters US for great knits, dresses and accessories; Asos for copies of celeb dresses and trendy shoes, ShopBop for designer brands and American Apparel for basics.

High Street Stores

H&M for affordable stylish designs, british All Saints for their unususal shapes and cut and great colour scheme, also love their artwork on tees. Urban Outfitters Europe and Topshop for everything.

Snow Whites

Even now, two years later, I still remember the D&G fall/winter 2006 show. The models, dressed head-to-toe in white knits, walked down a snowy runway. They were the ski bunnies in winter wonderland.
When it started snowing this winter, I immediately thought about the snowy fantasy of the show. I just love when it snows on Christmas Day and it makes all the trees white.
Although the D&G show was in early 2006 the shops are filled with wintery white goodies. Some people found the show a bit dramatic, which it is, but since I’m the biggest knit fan, I loved it.
The colour white (or should I say ivory) can be a bit too much when done head-to-toe, but I find it elegant when dressed in beautiful cable-knit sweaters, cowl-neck dresses and all the pom-pom accessories. Layering is an absolute must in this occasion, it makes it less awkward and more chic.
When wearing this white trend, start with white tights or leggings and a light tank or a camisole. Think of that as a base and then build the look on that. The next thing could be a knit sweater and a belted ski-inspired jacket, or a sweater dress and a chunky cable-knit sweater. Then accessorize with a nice cosy scarf, a slightly oversized beret, and of course gloves to keep your fingers warm. If you want to opt for the ultimate ski bunny look, finish off with snow boots.

Sexy Tux

With fashion's more powerful look this fall, think androgyny and the tux, I've put together the look for less. We've got this crisp white man shirt and then pair it with sexy satin pants, wide leather belt, patent leather sky-high pumps and a structured bag. A red nail polish and a daimond bangle warm the look up a bit.

Christmas Dresses

One of the best things about christmas is buying the dress. The perfect christmas dress in my opinion is glam, dressy and full of attitude.
I also love to buy a New Year’s dress. Then it’s more glam, metallics and emballishments.
There are a lot of colours going on this year. It’s the classics: black, grey, metallics, navy and ivory. And the strong colours like purple, red, orange and blue.
I’ve surfed the net to find the most perfect (and affordable) christmas and new years dresses and divided them into colours.

This Seasons Knitwear

Walking the streets of rain and snow this time of year is no fun, but a cosy knit sweater makes all the difference and can warm you up in those cold days. This seasons knitwear come in three different versions, sexy, chunky and patterned.

Sexy

Body-conscious sweaters and dresses in fine knits are an elegant version of the knit trend. Short knit dresses look great with black tights and ankle boots. Wear with statement accessories to give some details.

Chunky

The seasons big and chunky knitwear is cosy yet sophisticated. Wear them with platforms to balance out the extra width, and a belted waist for a feminine shape.

Patterned

The best way to wear bold patterned knits i oversized, it just doesn’t look right when in actual size. Wear with high pumps to look stylish rather than nerdy, flats don’t work with this trend.

Neck detail

Don’t wanna take things too far, but still work the knit trend? Then opt for an oversized scarf, whether it’s a giant chunky one from Giles, patterned from Stella McCartney or just added neck detail in a Michal Kors’ cowl neck knit sweater.

The Skating Skirt

Inspired by ice skating figures, the skating skirt is a must this fall. The leading man of this trend is Christopher Kane (above), who showed voluminous dresses and skirts for fall/winter 07. They “were inspired by Scarlett O’Hara in ‘Gone with the Wind’ but made more modern for today – very short and sexy, focusing on a very tight, small waist”, says Tammy Kane, his sister and collaborator.
The definition of the skating skirt is high-waisted, short and flowy with a hemline that hits above the knee. Wear with a fitted top or a slightly loose blouse, and cinch your waist with a wide belt (like Ashley Olsen, above) to balance out the volume. Complete the look with black opaques and sky-high pumps.
A super short and flared skirt in strong colour or metallics is great for the risk taking. But for the ones who want to keep things simple, a longer, relaxed skirt is a more casual alternative.
What’s great about the skating skirt, is the variety. You can wear it with structured shirts, loose blouses, vests, light knitwear or printed or simple t-shirts to create lots of different looks.

Sophia Kokosalaki showed the skating skirt with layering a knit turtleneck, black blazer and a white vest. At Missoni the skirt was paired with matching dark grey tights, a loose blouse and a cropped jacket. Danielle Scutt had more glam going on with a metallic shirt tucked into a pink skirt.

Don’t expect the trend to go away anytime soon, because the skirts were also featured in the spring/summer 08 shows. Change the look for spring and go bare legged (if you can pull it off). Also, swap the wide belt for a thin waist belt – and don’t forget the high heels!

The Cat Eye

Dramatically lined eyes are bold yet flirty. Keep lips neutral.

Neutral Face

Dewy skin, pink cheeks and nude lips were all over the fall runways. With just a hint of tainted moisturizer, blush and a lipgloss in biege, you’ve copied the look.

Smoky Eyes

The smoky eyes are extremely sexy. This season it’s glittery gray and blue shades that are the hottest.

Statement Lips

A bright lip colour lifts the face as the days get darker. When lips are this bold, keep eye makeup minimal and hair away from face.

Sleek, Straight Hair

Center-parted, pin-straight hair was a big trend. Wash hair with shampoo and conditioner to make it smooth and shiny – it’ll look healthy and luxorious.

Twists, Buns & Braids

A pulled-back hair is elegant and looks great paired with fall’s structured clothes.

Veronica Lake Curls

The old Hollywood glamour curls were a big hit. Paired with red lips – they complete the femme fetale 40’s look. Looks best with a side part.

Colour Bleed

From the moment I laid my eyes on Prada’s fall 07 bags I was hooked. The way the color faded from a strong shade of brown, almost black, to a more lighter shade, was just wonderful. This painterly technique of ‘dégradé’, when one colour bleeds to another, creates a big statement. Avoid wearing with patterns or emballishment as it will take the attention of the actual piece and make the outfit too ‘busy’.

The beautiful Prada bags come in different shapes and sizes, and are both available in soft leather and patent. The shoes are just as wonderful as the bags - it isn’t strange these chunky curved heels have made a big trend.

Miuccia Prada showed knee-length skirts and dresses in plain shapes. For added glam, navy blue faded into metallic gold.

At Jonathan Saunders’, dreamy colour combinations were paired with black to keep the look simple yet interesting.

Alberta Ferretti kept shades light and worked with shapes as in the dress in centre.

Marc Jacobs paired beautiful colours together at Louis Vuitton, and the result were pieces to-die-for. The silk skirt worn with cashmere is a perfect combination of colour and texture. The dress in centre has strong colours and a strong volume shape, a great statement piece.

They aren’t as glam as Louis Vuitton’s silk skirt or Jonathan Saunders’ dreamy dresses but they’re perfect for layering and reflect the trend perfectly. Toughen Up

This winter you can say goodbye to flowy frocks and welcome this seasons aggressive fashion with a sexy feeling. Think strong shapes, edgy silhouettes and powerfull dressing.

The New Goth

Black is, and always will be the classic colour. But know it’s time to shake things up a bit and mix different textures. Leather with softer, matter fabrics as seen at Christopher Kane, is a great look.

Studs

Studs, buckles, beading, zips and chains will surely add a good amount of attitude to your outfit. A fitted dress with beaded details, buckle ankle boots or a studded blazer are all great choices.

Biker Chic

The leather biker jacket has become a popular trend this fall. Wear with jeans for a casual look or with a dress to toughen up the look.

Androgyny

The man look has reached it’s highs with the tux, crispy white shirt and lace-ups. Work the trend wearing a blazer with sharp lines or go all the way and opt for D&G’s black tie-ish tuxedo with big shoulders and long sleeves. Avoid looking too manly, though – try adding a red lipstick for femininity.

Peaches & Pixie Geldof

Daughters of rocker Bob Geldof have become famous socialites in the London party scene. Their wardrobe essential are black nylon tights which they pair with mini dresses and high waisted shorts and skirts.

Alexa Chung

A television presenter, actress and former model. She has a bit quirky style, she’s always pretty casual. I would say it’s indie fashion in the style of Kirsten Dunst.

Daisy Lowe

She’s the daughter of fashion designer Pearl Lowe and singer Gavin Rossdale. At 18 she already has some modelling experience under her belt as the new face Agent Provocateur.

Alice Dellal

Her mother is Andrea Dellal, a former brazilian model, and her father is a British millionaire. She’s only 19, but has developed an incredible unique style, that many relate to grunge.

Agyness Deyn

The beautiful Agyness is one of the top british models at the moment. She has a fun style as she mixes high fashion with nu-rave and a bit of punk.

I think these London socialites are a good change from the Hollywood it girls like Lindsay and Mischa. I personally like these girls’ style way more - vintage mixed with desginer, it’s a bit casual but chic at the same time. I also love how they dress straight from their personality, not just wearing it because the designer gave them the clothes. Backstage at the SS08 Shows

I think I'm not gonna make a big review of the SS08 shows for now. I'm gonna focus on buying winter items the next months, and then I think it's a good thing to do a biiig review maybe in March or something, just when I'm getting into summer spirit. I hope it's okay with you readers! But for know, I really enjoy looking at backstage photos from the shows. Seeing what the models are wearing at the moment. I get my inspiration for shopping mostly from looking at what other people are wearing - street style blogs, magazines and the streets. These photos of the models are all from the SS08 shows from september and now in october. So enjoy, and I hope you'll get some ideas and inspiration!

Grey, grey, grey! Casual cardigans, sweaters and coats.

Bare legs aren't going anywhere, at least if you live somewhere warm (which is not the case for me). I love the sleeves on the white t-shirt Alison is wearing, very in the style of Ashley Olsen.

Casual white t-shirt, black blazer or a cardigan and a slouchy bag - so simple but a perfect combination.

It seems like black skinnies aren't going anywhere, for now at least. They're are a must in every closet, such a save choice and they match with almost everything.

A vest can make such a different to an outfit. I especially love Iekeliene's black vest with the cute pink dress. Magdalena's more casual in a beige one with denim shorts.

Oversized cardigan or a trench coat are a perfect coverage over a sleeveless minidress. Check out the boots Anja and Caroline are wearing, they make a cute dress more edgy.

I'm in love with slightly oversized t-shirts. Everything from eye popping print to a neutral one.

Agyness's outfits are always edgy and full of energy. She's such a cool person and it really shows through her clothes. She somehow get's it right, she never looks like she's trying too hard.

The 12 Hottest Fall Trends

I'm so sorry I haven't been able to post the last three weeks. At first school started and I got really busy, then last week I went to Denmark - and managed to get one shopping day in Copenhagen :) But I'm back now with a new post and I am going to try to post at least every week.

1. Bows

They're cute, flirty and give an outfit a bit of a tuxedo vibe. They can both be formal as seen at Betsey Johnson, and more loose as seen at Luella.

2. Frills & Feathers

The feathers at Nina Ricci, shown both in the clothes and in hair of the models, were flowy. At Fendi the frills gave the dress a glamorous evening look.

3. Fur

A fur west worn with chiffon dress at Doo.Ri was a beautiful combination. The camel brown one at Versace was glamourus with white pants. Zac Posen showed his fur with a hoodie.

4. Hats

They're manly, sophisticated and show a bit of power.

5. Leather Jackets

We all now the biker chic look. The leather jacket is a must for a biker chic.

6. Oversized Cardigans

Everybody should have a oversized cardigan for fall. Either long as seen at Diane Von Furstenberg and DKNY or a more fitted one as shown with a skinny waist belt at Rag & Bone.

7. Gloves

Gloves are going to be big for fall. Doo.Ri showed a long version and Badgley Mischka a bit shorter. Burberry had a different look that was my favourite.

8. Socks

They're quirky and look great with short dresses or skirts.

9. Strong Colours

Nothing much to say here. Just all the colours of the rainbow in they're strongest version.

10. Tights

Warm and cosy for winter under all these short summer dresses. I loved the rib tights at Marc by Marc Jacobs.

11. Wide Belts

Define your waist with a wide waist belt paired with dresses and blazer jackets.

12. Grey

One of the it colour for fall - neutral and warm. Try to pair different shades of the colour together.

Copenhagen Fashion Week SS08

On the Copenhagen Fashion Week (August 8th-12th), big names in Denmark showed their Spring/Summer 2008 collections. Most of the collections were really feminine with classic and wearable pieces. Loose, soft fabrics were popular on the runways and neutral colours with a hint of both light and strong colours. Here are my favourite pieces from the fashion shows in Copenhagen.

Baum und Pferdgarten

They showed beautiful colour combination in short dresses and skirts. Neutral colours were mixed with black, purple, gold and silver. Knee pads gave garments a quirky detail. Sleeves were voluminous on beautiful chiffon tunics. In mix with the chiffon there was shiny patent leather with a metallic sheen. Knee-high stockings in stilettoes and headbands topped it all.

Bruunz Bazaar

Bruunz Bazaar showed casual clothes in light fabrics. Colours like grey, black and cream white were great with mustard and energetic prints. Trench coats came in a few colour shades and were both paired with skinny pants and shown open with shorts. Blazer jackets toned down feminine pieces.

It was all city girl look at By Malene Birger. Accessories like hats, colourful gloves and geeky glasses. The colour palette included light colours in green, blue and yellow and strong orange with more classic colours and prints. I loved the futuristic ankleboots shown in black and white. Masculine in tuxedos and shirt dresses met feminine in high waist skirts, blouses, gemstones and flowy dresses.

Day Birger et Mikkelsen

Maxi dresses met short dresses. Legwarmers with flats. Large hats and berets. The outfits were all different. Glitter played up the neutral colours, black and light yellow.

InWear

Freja Beha opened the show in a casual t-shirt dress. Short baby doll dresses and satin balloon skirts looked cute on the runway. Denim was in a light shade and looked great on high waist cropped jeans (as seen in centre, below). The colour palette encompassed items divided between the futuristic and minimialistic. Strong orange, purple and a beatiful greenblue with white, black and beige.

Munthe plus Simonsen

A little bohemian feeling here, mini vests with maxi dresses and gypsy tops. Wide leg pants, shorts and bermudas were all seen in the show. I liked the energetic colours - mint green, purple and an orange/red colour.

Rützou

My favourite collection in the Copenhagen Fashion Week. Belts were a big part of the outfits, either seen loose on the hips or defined on the waist. Both fitted and oversized cardigans in all colours were seen in the show. I loved the drainpipes in beige, black and other classic colours. Mild pastels played a big role in the show, in skirts, dresses and tunics.

I don't find the models all that special! At least not in the Bruunz Bazaar and the By Malene Birger shows. What do you think?

The Newcomers

Irina Kulikova

The russian model Irina Kulikova is one of the most talked about newcomers in the fashion industry. The sixteen year old was discovered in a Moscow restaurant by IMG agency head Ivan Bart and Liv Tyler. Irina’s big break came when she opened the F/W 07 Prada show in Milan. The same season she opened and closed ten shows, including Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci and Yves Saint Laurent. In New York she walked exclusively for Calvin Klein. This ad season she landed ad campaigns for Prada, Jil Sander, Pringle of Scotland and became the new face for Marc Jacobs fragrance ‘Daisy’. Now she is represented by IMG models in London, Paris, New York and Milan.

Catherine McNeil

Catherine McNeil is eighteen years old from Australia. She walked more than 35 shows her first season of fashion shows F/W 07. In Paris and Milan she opened shows at Alexander McQueen, Giambattista Valli, Givenchy, Alessandro Dell’Acqua and Etro and closed shows such as Balmain, Dsquared2 and Emilio Pucci. In the Just Cavalli show in Milan she both opened and closed. For this ad season Catherine landed campaigns for D&G, Hugo Boss, Donna Karan and Versace – all shot by photographer Mario Testino. She is represented at Next in New York, Paris and London and Chic in Sydney.

I love nail polishes, I feel so glamorous to have a beautiful shade on my nails. Maybe it’s sounds weird but I can’t explain why I feel that way. The trends that have been really ‘in’ the past year are probably bright red and the dark purple/black. I personally think that the black is pretty much out, it’s time to move on to new trends. Dark sparkly, shimmery polishes are going to be big this fall in red, blue and silver tones. Some bright colors will work too and the nudes are always a safe choice if you don’t want to take risks.

Kate Moss launched her first collection for Topshop this spring; eclectic capsule collection of effortlessly cool, signature pieces, inspired by Kate’s wardrobe. Mixing rock ‘n’ roll chic with bohemian charm. Kate and the Topshop team worked together to capture her unique sense of style, and the collection mirrored her edgy, playful attitude. “Kate knows instinctively what feels right.” Jacqui Markham at Topshop said about her design skills. "Kate has a unique position as a true fashion icon and I look forward to helping develop 'Kate Moss for Topshop' into a global brand," said Sir Philip, Topshop’s head man, who took a personal role in striking the deal. The Row by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

The trend-setting power of the Olsens is undeniable, they create their own unique ways of dressing. When they launched their self-funded line ‘The Row’ last year the world took notice. The high-end line includes 28 knitwear basics of exceptional quality. The t-shirts are made of fine modal knit and have only one seam in the center back, so they drape perfectly on the body. Due to the success of the spring items, the designers have expanded the fall collection to nearly twice as many pieces. The celebs are big fans - Selma Blair, Kirsten Dunst and Vanessa Traina have all been seen in The Row designs.
In fall the Olsens will launch a new lower priced line called Elizabeth and James (named after their younger siblings). The line will be available this month at Neiman Marcus, Intermix and Bergdorf Goodman.

Twenty8Tvelve by S.Miller

Sisters Sienna and Savannah Miller launched their spring/summer Twenty8Twelve by S. Miller collection in late July. Sienna said the inspiration was “Patti Smith, Keith Richards, free-thinking, radical people who aren’t influenced by others”. The collection includes well-cut coats with pleated skirts, printed silk dresses, cotton tees and tanks, tailored pants, cropped tuxedo jackets and lovely blouses done in collaboration with artist David Cooper who designed the print. Savannah graduated from the Central Saint Martins in London four years ago. A source told Grazia magazine last year, “Sienna has great fashion sense but Savannah is the one with the real design talent. She was a star pupil at college and the label's bound to be successful.” The sisters are working together to make sure that everything is perfect because of Sienna's high media profile. A Twenty8Twelve shop is opening in London in the first week of September which will also sell products made by their friends. The collection will be sold at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman in the US.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Bitten

Sarah Jessica Parker brings us clothing to the masses at affordable prices (every piece is under $20) in her clothing line Bitten exclusively sold at Steve & Barry’s. The summer Bitten collection made its debut on June 7th. The line consists of over 400 clothing items and accessories such as knit shirts, cashmere sweaters, dresses, jackets, t-shirts, swearshirts, denim, handbags, jewelry, belts and shoes. Sarah Jessica decided to collaborate with Steve & Barry’s to create high-quality sportswear for women of all ages and sizes. Bitten reflects Sarah Jessica’s personal sense of style and taste, with her own serving as the inspiration for the majority of the pieces. In an interview with Glamour magazine, she reveals that her clothes “are not setting a trend. We’re not Balenciaga. They’re well-made clothes that feel of-the-moment.” And that she didn’t name the brand after herself “I’m not pretending that these are clothes from my closet. Or that this is Carrie Bradshaw.”

Mónica & Pénelope Cruz for MNG by Mango

Monica and Penelope Cruz launched their new winter clothing collection for Spanish store Mango in July. The limited-edition line will hit stores in September. The collection will feature a mix of red-carpet-inspired evening wear, jeans, knits and daywear based on vintage pieces from their own wardrobes. “The collection caters for all kinds of women, from a 16-year-old girl to a woman of 40,” says Mónica Cruz. Penélope adds, “The entire collection has a very vintage feel. Some of the ideas we got from books from the 50s and 60s”. “We are very happy with the results of the collection. In fact, we have been wearing Mango clothes for years, but now we intend to wear all the items in this collection,” says Penélope. “We wanted to recreate items that we really like, many of them vintage, that we have always wanted to wear”.

dVb by Victoria Beckham

Victoria says her burgeoning lifestyle brand, dVb, was her logical step after a successful two-year collaboration with Rock & Republic jeans. Victoria has now developed her debut denim collection under the name ‘dVb denim’. Victoria says, "I've loved denim since I can remember and for a long time couldn't find what I consider to be the perfect pair of jeans, so it was important for me to develop a collection that embodied all the qualities I look for in a fantastic pair. I wanted to go back to basics to achieve an elegant and tailored feel. I want women to look and feel great when they wear them." First drops from this capsule collection came in stores in June, but the main collection will be dropping from September onwards.

If I say my own opinion I thought the Kate Moss collection for TopShop was pretty great, I managed to get a pair of skinny jeans. I liked most of the clothes, but I didn't like how she wasn't really creative - just recreated something she had in her closet. As for The Row, the clothes are basic quality knit - nothing new but they were well designed. I just loved the Twenty8Twelve collection, the clothes were beautifully designed with amazing details. There has been mixed opinions about Sarah Jessica's Bitten line, I wasn't in love with the whole sports-wear idea but I managed to see some cute clothes. The Cruzes for MNG was really romantic with a vintage vibe, I liked it a lot. Then there's the dVb...it was supposed to be made of some luxurios Japanese denim but there has been rumours that the jeans are cheap looking. I didn't think they were that fabolous but there weren't many pictures on the web, so I can't say much as I haven't seen the whole collection.

The New Jeans

I have an obsession for jeans. They’re suitable for many different occasions like casual on the weekends, basic for school or work and then more glam, for example detailed pockets, for evening. Like everyone knows the skinnies have been the top jeans trend (almost the only) for the past seasons, and every single fashionista has probably a few pairs. The skinny jeans aren’t the most comfortable and figure-flattering jeans (to most women), so I think it’s time to put them to rest and celebrate other jeans trends, such as wide leg, high waist and coloured.

Wide leg

The celebs have been wearing wide leg jeans a lot and I’m really liking this trend. They’re so much more classy as they go with everything from a T-shirt to a dressy blouse. And they come in such a variety like slim fit, high waisted, sailor style, loose boyfriend fit – I could keep on going. The wide legs are perfect to tuck shirts and tanks in – it defines the waist and gives nice proportions. If you don’t want to tuck-in, a fitted tank top or a shirt is perfect. Whether you’re petite, tall, curvy or slim this look suits almost every size and shape. The best shoes to wear with this jeans trend? A open or round toe pump to add heigth, or flats if you’re tall.

Here we have three different styles. To left are J & Company Jeans Hollywood Trouser $163, they have a slightly more form fitting leg that will not overwhelm a slender figure but will still create an elongated leg line. High Waist

Well there are mixed opinions about this trend, but they aren’t as bad as they look. Like the wide leg, they come in different styles and shapes – from 8 inch rise to 14 inches, and from skinny fit to wide leg. It is also great to tuck-in tank or a button shirt wih high waist jeans as with the wide leg. Try to wear this jeans trend the way it flatters your body. If your long and lean you can wear them with flats and a tank top, but if you have curves, high heels and a sexy top is more flattering. The great thing about high waist jeans? They hold in that extra something we tend to carry in our tummy area. But don’t be a fashion victim, if it doesn’t flatter your body or your not confident, dig it. This trend just doesn’t work on every body – even Jessica Simpson with her perfect curves wasn’t rockin the high waist!

Mischa Barton wears her Sass & Bide Hulsey Strutter Jeans with a tucked in shirt and a skinny belt. Gwen Stefani is looking hot in her Stella McCartney’s with a wide belt. Jennifer Lopez rocks her Pepe Jeans with pumps and a sexy white vest.

On left we have basic dark washed Nobody Cult Highwaisted Jeans $200. In center we have Silence & Noise Buttoned-Up Jean $98, also a dark wash but with buttons and more details. On right is Cheap Monday Stretch Skinny Jean $65, gray shade and not sky-high, a great alternative for those who don’t want to take things too far.

Colored

It’s a trend I’m afraid to open up to, but when I think about it, it is a welcome change. These jeans are a blast from the past, they originally were worn in the 80’s. They come in all the colors and shades of the rainbow – from spicy red to cotton candy purple. The jeans have to be skinny and styled simple because they are the statement. Beware over-accessorizing as the look gets too complicated, and be careful of what colors you mix – some just doesn’t look right together.

Victoria Beckham: A Style Icon?

I often go to celebrity gossip blogs, not to get the latest gossip, but to see the clothes the celebs are wearing. Victoria Beckham is one of few who is always seen stylish, whether she's out shopping, playing with her kids, on the airport or just anywhere. Victoria is a successful business woman who has, to name a few, written a fashion book; designed a jeans, handbags and sunglasses collection; and launched her own fragrance.
Victoria has said that "whether you've got £20 to spend in Top Shop or £2,000 to spend at Gucci, looking good isn't about money, it's about style - and style never goes out of fashion." But the 33 year old doesn't think of herself as a style icon, "I like to wear things that suit me, that flatter my shape, but I would never say I was fashionable,” and she rates Kate Moss as her fashion idol "I just love Kate Moss. She’s my fashion idol without a shadow of a doubt. I’m a big fan of hers- I’ve always thought she looks fantastic.”
A style icon is someone who will be remembered for her style for decades, someone who is a trendsetter and isn't afraid to experiment with her style. The question is, will Victoria's style still be rembered in 50 years on? I think only time will tell, but for now she is more of a follower of fashion and trends as opposed to a creator of them.

I've been keeping an eye on her style for a few months now and it looks like the Spring/Summer collection from Giambattista Valli is one of Victoria's favourites as she has been wearing at least four outfits from the collection.

Fall Winter 07 Part Two

I was out of town for the weekend so I couldn't post but here's the rest...

Karen Walker

Thirties comic book superheroine was Karen Walker's inspiration. You could see how the inspiration reflected the outfits but she didn't take it too far. She wasn't afraid to use colours, prints and graphics.

The prints were fun, both on the shirt (left) and tights (right). The blue circle shaped sunglasses were unusual. I loved the wide leg jeans which we've been seeing on celebrities lately.

How cool is that bright blue and red anorak? The graphic brings life to otherwise not so interesting dress on right.

Lacoste

Christopher Lemaire, Lacoste's creative director, says his aim is to make clothes that are precise, refined and luxurious. With these words said I think he has accomplished that pretty well.

I personally like darker jeans (left) more than white washed - they're more basic but still trendy. It was unuasal to pair them with rain boots. I'm dying to get a cosy knit sweater similiar to this in center, and it's a great change to pair it with a shirt. I'll also try to find a a coat in lighter colours like this one on right since it's just so much black going on.

Lela Rose

It was sporty in a stylish way. She used just the right amount of prints and strong colours - mixed them with gray, black and white.

These cropped gray pants are great to pair with loose tops, because they're rather thight so it's the right proportion. I love how the yellow belt (right) makes so much different to the dress.

The jacket is a little bit sporty (center) but the glam pants bring some glamourusness to it. The skirt and top (right) is really feminine and the colours are really neutral and light.

Luella

Luella Bartley is definitly one of my favourite designers. And as always the inspiration was very British.

I don't know how I feel about the riding boots (left), the designer described them as "very London street vibe". The velvet fabric hasn't been very popular on the runways the past years but the red cropped pants and the blazer (center) were really cool. The bow shirt under the tuxedo (right) made it more feminine and womanly. The fur hats were very russian - I'm sure they give a lot of warm in the winter.

The pink on the dress and on the jeans is really beautiful, not that neon bright pink and not the baby pink, just the perfect shade. I can't dare myself to wear those coloured jeans - especially the ones in daring colours like pink (center), bright blue and bright red. The russian military inspiration shows well on the bag (right) and in a more bright colour on the pink bag (center).

Marc by Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs is the king of layers and this season was no exception. He used a lot of earth colours like gray and brown, with plaids and knits.

Cosy sweaters were tucked into the cropped, wide pants - and the belt used to define the waist.

I really liked the thick rib tights which were in white and gray, they were then paired with wool socks. There were a lot of plaids - big plaids, as seen on the dress to right.

Peter Som

The outfits seemed to be more day looks than evening looks as there were oversized knits, slim pants and short dresses. Gray was the main colour with black and white and a hint of purple and prints.

He mixed different fabrics together, like knits with silk (left) and knits with leather (center). The criss-cross shoes unusal and they were both paired with pants and dresses.

It seems he's not a fan of thights as all the dresses were shown on bare legs. But the dresses were very beautiful in light and flowy fabrics.

Versace

"It's about a bell shape. Controlled volume. Black and white—and color to put the life in." Donatella Versace said about the collection. The clothes emphasized the waist and hips - the womanly figure.

A glamourus minimalism is probably the perfect word to describe the outfits.

Red, blue and green - the basic colours shown in a perfect shade.

Zac Posen

Black was the main colour, but to make it interesting it was in different textures.

The purple shirt underneath the blazer is in a really beautiful colour - it's perfect to layer the black blazer over such a strong colour and just get a peek at the shirt on the sleeves and the chest.

Puffy dresses managed to look feminine as they were short and baring at the chest.

Fall Winter 07 Part One

Well I know I'm kind of late doing this, but since fall is just around the corner I thought it would be fun to give you my opinion of the hottest designers this fall.

3.1 Phillip Lim

One of my favorites designers. I really loved the layers and how the clothes were loose. The hats were very cool.

The plaids gave the outfits a preppy look. It reminded me of school uniforms, especially the skirt (left) and the jacket (right).

Tights will be big for winter. I really liked the blue ones (right), they gave the outfit a more interesting look, since gray is a bit neutral colour. Layering can sometimes get overwhelming, but in this case it's just right.

Alice Roi

Her inspiration for the collection was the children's book heroine Madeline, but I couldn't actually see how her inspiration reflected the clothes. Despite that the collection was okay. The main colours were black, white and beige with a hint of gray and plaids.

It's fun how she mixed styles. The pants are kind of sporty (left and center), the top+cardigan (left) was romantic and I found the shirt and blouse (center) geeky. The shoes were really unusal but I liked them.

I liked how the attention is on the skirt (left) and the top is pretty basic. In center the attention is more on the printed top and the skirt is more basic. The socks were popular on fall runways and they have this kind of a geeky vibe.

Badgley Mischka

The collection was a bit more casual then previous seasons with jeans and tweed, but the furs and gloves added some glamourus hint.

The blue skinnies are pretty basic - we've seen them before, but the gray ones (center) had a hint of metallic which gave them a rocker chic look. Then there's the high-waisted jeans (right), they will be big in fall - people just have to get them right. Let's be honest, they don't flatter every bodyshape.

The dress is layered over a turtleneck - perfect for winter. Then there's the boots, which reminded me of riding boots plus the pants/leggings (right) are kind of like riding pants. The jackets in gray tweed and in black are really cute.

The gowns were beautiful and really figure-flattering. They all had some glitter or metallics. I'm sure were going to see some of them on the red carpet.

BCBG Max Azria

"The BCBG Max Azria girl is Sienna Miller or Kate Moss" said Lubov Azria before the show. The collection was all about laid-back frocks, dresses, knitted-fur vests, coats and jackets.

Here we see the tights again, they make the dresses look more relaxed. I'm really looking forward to wearing tights, the leggings trend is all-over, just a bit tired I think. Look at the black and gold lace-ups, they're so stylish with the pointy toe and no heel.

The knit hat is so grunge, and i just love the dresses. Especially the one on the right with the pearls. I'll also be looking after similiar coat for the fall, it's a good change from the black ones.

Betsey Johnson

Oh I just loved the fun and uplifting colours and prints. Betsey said that "fall is more elegant, refined - more grown-up". Surely this collection was more mature than previous seasons, but there's still the same playfullness there.

The white tights are surprisingly stylish, they're neutral and don't take the attention of the dress. The prints on the dresses (left, center) are so fun and the shape is casual, yet figure-flattering. The dress on the right is so cute, the vest and the gold - perfect together. Plus I have to say I just love this sock trend.

Let's start with the fur, there were so many furs on the runways so be sure to get one for fall - fake or real - your choice. The vintage stores are a really great to find one-of-a-kind styles. Then there's, well I don't know what to call it, a tie or just a scarve (center, right) but it gives this cool tomboy look. The sunglasses in the show were amazing, and the shoes with the pom pom's - really grandma like. Oh and the high-waisted short-short-shorts (right) are so cool.

Diane von Furstenberg

It was mostly dresses that walked Diane von Furstenberg's runway this season. Black, red and blue were the main colours with some prints, gray and dark pink.

The red half-circle gives a big statement on the t-shirt shaped dress to the left. Also, the red in the dress in center brings some life to it - the cropped jacket is the perfect cover up. The red dress to the right is really feminine and brings out some curves.

Pairing a thin belt with a simple cardigan really brings out the waist as seen left. It can be fun to wear the belts in strong colours, especially if the cardigan is black or gray. I'm really loving the oversized knits know (right) it makes the dress a little bit more casual.

DKNY

This collection was all about the city - tweed, gray, scarves, glitter and some strong colours. The beret's gave some Paris spirit to the show.

I normally don't like yellow, but in this case it's actually cool (left). I'm definitly going to get oversized, loose pants in gray like those in center for fall. This is great for winter - pair a cocktail mini dress over a t-shirt (right) or over black long-sleeved shirts as also seen in the show.

I really liked the purple/pink colour. It was not overwhelming, just gave the outfits something extra - like the printed scarve (center) and the print on the dress (right). The dress (left) has a simple shape but the glitz and the colour makes it interesting. I just love the trapeze shaped frocks like this one on right.

Doo.Ri

I loved the thight pants and cropped jackets with gloves. The fabrics were light and it was all wearable clothes with nice detailing.

I thought the navy and bordeaux were really great colours to mix with the dark gray. The fur west looked surprisingly good with the knee-length dress.

Jill Stuart

It was all black and bright blue this season at Jill Stuart's. I wasn't in love with the collection, she could have gotten better result with fewer looks as I found many of the the outfits too alike.

But there were also some positive notes, like the patent leather gloves and the blue colour. I really liked the dress with the bow (center) and the frock (left) - the buttons on both of these frocks gave it some tuxedo vibe.

I've been wanting to start a fashion blog for a long time but finally decided to do it. English is not my main language so there will be some words spelled wrong, but feel free to correct me. I'll blog about fashion related things like designers, trends, models, celebrities and beauty. The blog is going to reflect my style but I'll also try to post about different styles and trends.
